DORSET RURAL MUSIC SCHOOL offers the finest tuition in . . . Piano, keyboard, saxophone, recorder, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar (all styles), trumpet, trombone, music theory and singing. In addition we offer Music Appreciation classes and one-day courses to students of all ages.

Inaugurated in 1947 as part of a nationwide rural counties initiative which aimed to bring much needed cultural revival after the dark years of the war, we are the last of the counties to maintain its title and it is thanks to some heroic championing of our school and the good stewardship of teachers, governors and Musical Directors we have survived. Whilst other county music schools have been swallowed by their LEAs, Dorset's has thrived, and is now alone in bringing specialist music teaching and appreciation in a rural county where pupils range from toddlers to teenagers and parents.

Retired people are particularly valued, especially those who, instead of mourning the lost years, decide to revisit old skills or learn new ones.
